There are gigs that simmer, and then there are gigs that roar. On Wednesday night at The Brook in Southampton, Wishbone Ash delivered the latter—a masterclass in melodic rock, twin-lead guitar wizardry, and timeless energy that had the crowd riding a wave of nostalgia and sonic bliss.
From the opening notes, the band locked into a groove that felt both familiar and fresh. Tracks like “Phoenix” soared with emotional intensity, its extended solos weaving a tapestry of tone and texture that only Wishbone Ash can conjure. “F.U.B.B.” followed with a darker, funkier edge—tight, moody, and hypnotic, it showcased the band’s range beyond the classic rock mould.
But it was “Warrior” that truly galvanized the room. With its galloping rhythm and heroic harmonies, the song felt like a rallying cry, drawing cheers and raised fists from long time fans. “Blowin’ Free” closed the set with a jubilant burst of energy, its infectious riff echoing through the venue like a victory lap.
